This is a list of my favorite website performance tools.
Caution
Be careful not to get obsessed with improving performance scores and forget what matters the most: the content.
Google PageSpeed
This is my favorite tool to check and the first I use in the optimization process.
Considering it’s a tool from Google, much of what we see here likely affects Google Search results ranking.
Its feedback is direct and has reference links with detailed information and videos.
Tip
If I’m in a hurry, this is the only tool I check.
GTmetrix
Another great tool to use, as it sometimes gives additional feedback to Google PageSpeed
Cloudflare Observatory
On my free Cloudflare Account, I get 30 monthly requests to the Observatory.
It’s a good tool that gives feedback on what Cloudflare tools you can automatically enable.
The free tools available are sufficient for most websites.
Gift Of Speed Compression Checker
GZIP/Brotli Compression Checker | GiftOfSpeed
You can use the above website to check whether you use GZIP or Brotli compression.
Even though GZIP has been used for a long time on the web, Brotli can deliver better results (more compressed content), and if you use Cloudflare, you can set it up in just a click.
